Our detailed model of Toby, from the traditional puppet show featuring Mr. Punch and his wife Judy, was maded in London 1872 by J B Hennell.
The Punch and Judy Puppet Show was first recorded in Covent Garden, London, England, in May 1662, by the diarist, Samuel Pepys. In Octocter of that year, the Italian puppet showman Pieto Gimonde from Bologna, was granted a Royal Command Performance by Charles II at Whitehall.
Our model stands 3.4 inches (8.6cm) high from Top Hat to base. The hat is pierced, so to be used as a pepper and the head is detachable from the body.
Toby is a beguiling chap, and we hope to find him a good home !
