A Scottish Cream Piggin engraved “ Robert H Pinkerton 16th August 1892” and after much detective work, as we were trying to make it one of Allan Pinkerton family, who settled in America having come from Glasgow and set up ‘The Pinkerton Detective Company,” famous for disrupting one of the assassinations on Abraham Lincoln! But seems unlikely!!! Our Piggin was made in the same year as the engraving in Glasgow 1892 by Robert and William Sorley, who were retail silversmiths recorded at 1 Buchanan Street. It is a heavy quality piece weighing a heavy 275gms and measuring 15.5cm across handles and stands 6.7cm high.
