This sandwich box, although described as a cigarrette box in the enclosed letter, has a story to tell. The accompanying letter was written to Lord Cross and is dated the 15th of October 1944 and says the following:
'Dear Lord Cross,
I am enclosing a silver cigarette box, and your family seal inside it. As you are abroad I am sending to c/o Ash House. I do not know any other address. I lost my sister recently, and I know she meant to do it. Best of luck for safe return, yours sincerely, M.E.Macandrew.'
The Box itself was made in Birmingham in 1905 by WHSS Ltd, and has a flexible hinge, allowing the lid to lie flat. The Box measures 12.5cms in length.
