Coffee biggins, invented by George Biggin, were originally designed to 'drip brew' coffee rather than merely boiling coffee and water in a saucepan and decanting straight into a cup. Our George III example, which lacks the stand and lamp, stands approximately 6.25" (15.8cm) to the gadroon edge lip spout and is engraved with contemporary arms for Hall-Joy of Hartham Park, co. Wilts. Robert Hennell (I), working with sons David (II) and Samuel entered their partnership mark in January1802 and are recorded as having premises at 11 Foster Lane.
